Hi everyone
I hope your year is not disappearing before your eyes. Mine is going quickly but still plenty of time for good things to happen before the end of the year.
First of all – we would love your help. ABA is advocating HARD at the moment to ensure that we secure the future of ABA’s National Breastfeeding Helpline. We know that our health professionals (you!) understand the amazing benefit these services offer to breastfeeding mums and families.
The good news is that you can do something about this to make a difference to breastfeeding mums and babies – and it only takes a few minutes. Click through to the campaign page here and watch the 90-second video message from ABA President, Cate Uhe, to find out why we need you to do this and what you can do. It’s easy and it’s effective. And you are sure to get a nice warm feeling in your tummy when you do it. Thank you in advance for helping us with this.
Many of you will have seen the media a few weeks ago about Dr Elise Turner being asked to leave an airline business lounge because her expressing breastmilk was ‘making other lounge guests uncomfortable’. ABA spoke to media about the laws that protect women from being discriminated against because she is breastfeeding (which includes expressing). You can access the ABC article that ABA was involved in here, which asks why women still face discrimination in Australia. This is a great moment to mention that ABA is committed to building a Breastfeeding Friendly Australia through a range of community recognition and accreditation programs including the Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace Accreditation program, promoting breastfeeding-friendly environments in the community and providing education for early childhood service staff about being breastfeeding friendly.
As always, ABA also has a few goings-on for you to attend:
ABA’s ‘Bump, breast and beyond’ seminar in Brisbane is almost upon us but there is still time for you to register and attend. The program has a high-quality and diverse range of presenters about all things breastfeeding and lactation, to support your practice with breastfeeding mums and families.
Our next workshop for health professionals is a full day on infant and maternal nutrition with a focus on the use of infant formula. It will be live online on Saturday, 25 October from 9 am to 4 pm AEDT. More information is here for you about how to register and the program details for the day.
Enrolment in ABA’s 10960NAT Diploma of Breastfeeding Management opens in February. Are you starting to think now about enrolling in this fantastic course Click here to find out how comprehensive and flexible it is to study with ABA. Learning even more about breastfeeding? Why not?
Have a great month and talk soon.
