Our Story

Australian Breastfeeding Association

For over 50 years, the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) has provided high quality and accessible training, education and resources to health professionals to ensure skilled, knowledgeable and practical breastfeeding support for mothers. Around 1,100 trained volunteer breastfeeding counsellors and community educators provide ABA’s services to the community, to new families, and to health professionals.

ABA is well known as a high quality Registered Training Organisation offering a range of nationally-recognised courses, including our Community Mentoring Programs, ‘Certificate IV’ through to ‘Diploma’ level, along with our brand new individual online modules.

ABA is dedicated to supporting you in your role as a health professional, through our various publications; including our peer-reviewed journal, content-laden newsletters, seminars and face-to-face education. Our reputation in Australia is unsurpassed as the leading source of breastfeeding information.

Through a range of services, ABA supports and encourages those who want to breastfeed or provide breastmilk for their babies, and advocates to raise community awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and human milk to child and maternal health. Services include membership for both individuals, health students and health professionals,  a 24-hour National Breastfeeding Helpline, an informative website, local support groups, antenatal classes and numerous print and digital resources.
