Hello everyone
By the time you read this World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) 2025 will be almost over. But there is still some precious time to participate, learn and find out more about breastfeeding support with ABA.
In particular, there is a special opportunity for you to learn about the #WarmChain of support for breastfeeding via our WBW2025 webpage. You can make your own statement about the part you play in supporting breastfeeding and celebrate your role in the continuum of care during the First 1000 Days. Just follow the #WarmChain prompts.
One last-minute WBW thing for you to be involved in and perhaps to promote through your own networks is our FREE WBW25 online webinar on Thursday, 7 August at 7:30 to 9.00pm. You can learn more and register for the event here.
For more activities and events with ABA for WBW2025, have a look on our trusty website.
ABA has a great event happening in Brisbane on Sunday, 19 October: ‘Bump, breast and beyond’. This one-day seminar has been organised for all our valued health professionals, ABA volunteers and for mums too! While our Brisbane Health Professional Seminar was unable to go ahead earlier this year, you get the benefit of a whole new program. Leading experts will be presenting a range of breastfeeding, lactation and infant and maternal health topics.
Registrations are open now so don’t delay. Even if you are not living in Brisbane, you might like to make it a warm-weather professional development opportunity. More information about speakers and other details are here. breastfeeding.asn.au/2025-brisbane-seminar-bump-breast-and-beyond.
In other news, ABA has been collaborating with Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia) as they went live with their Autistic Pregnancy and Parenting Hub in June. Our ‘Focus on breastfeeding’ section in this edition of Professional Express has been written by the Hub project lead and researcher, Dr Abbey Love. There are a number of features to explore on this online hub for families and health professionals so please take some time to follow the links. I would recommend that you take a look at the Autistic Pregnancy and Parenthood Training Modules under the ‘professionals’ tab, which are free to download and complete in your own time. These modules aim to support understandings of autism, give suggestions for good practice principles and you will also hear lived experience insights to integrate into your practice.
For now – best wishes for the rest of World Breastfeeding Week 2025. Thank you to you all for the commitment you make every day to supporting breastfeeding mums and families to achieve their breastfeeding goals and the work you do to remove barriers to breastfeeding.
We would love to receive photos or stories about your WBW2025 activities in your own workplace or your community. Send pics and written descriptions to engagement@breastfeeding.asn.au and we will include them in next month’s edition.
All the best wishes until I see you here next month.
