Gestational diabetes and breastfeeding

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a condition caused by impaired glucose tolerance during pregnancy, resulting in hyperglycaemia. It is estimated that 5 to 10% of Australian women will develop gestational diabetes in pregnancy. GDM can impact breastfeeding outcomes and women with GDM may benefit from additional support to overcome common lactation challenges.
