Breastfeeding beyond infancy
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that babies be breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months, followed by continued breastfeeding to 2 years and beyond alongside the introduction of appropriate family foods. For breastfeeding beyond infancy to be achievable, mothers require evidence‑based healthcare, improved support and more breastfeeding-friendly environments.
