Hello everyone

Well, it’s finally arrived! World Breastfeeding Week 2024 is in full swing now, but I still have time to remind you that there is something for everyone in ABA’s #WBW2024 program.

There are freebies on our mum2mum app and a FREE online Connect & Share session next Tuesday. Our local groups will be marking the occasion all over Australia with their own unique takes on the WBW2024 theme of ‘Breastfeeding Support for All’. I can’t wait to see all the photos of breastfeeding-themed cakes!

We have something special for health professionals too. On the last evening of WBW (Wednesday, 7 August) ABA and LCANZ are hosting a special FREE live panel on the topic of  Supporting Mothers in Challenging Circumstances. This aligns with the WBW theme of ensuring that breastfeeding support is available to all mothers and families. You can see more details via the hyperlink, but we have four presenters who practice across a broad range of contexts to support mothers who are breastfeeding with additional complexities.

I also want to mention that we have a weeklong ‘Share your journey with us’ through our Instagram site. This is an opportunity for mothers and families to tell us about their experiences of seeking breastfeeding support. We are hoping that we will be able to learn what this experience can be like – when it has been positive but also what the challenges are that mums face in getting this support. We might even be able to understand what the major breastfeeding support needs are for mothers – and how this might inform the services we all offer.

So please let me give you permission 😉 to keep track of @ozbreastfeeding Instagram this week as we post stories from mothers about breastfeeding support. And feel free to let mothers who you know or meet through your work where they can share their stories.
